ICQ 99b is the latest release of ICQ ('I seek you'), the popular instant messaging program that lets you communicate with friends and colleagues in real time over the Internet.

NOTE: The Mac programs on this CD are mostly in archived 'HQX' (BinHex) files – they can be extracted with several applications, including Stuffit Expander (which is on the CD...). Clicking on the links below should set the process in motion. You may receive a message that the file cannot be loaded into Simple Text – if so, start Stuffit and then open the HQX file you want from within Stuffit.

NetCD is a CD console program that can display information about the CD you are currently listening to by downloading the information (including the disc title and track titles) from a constantly growing Internet database of CD information called the CDDB. The CDDB contains information for thousands of CDs.
Use of the database is free, but you need a client program like NetCD to utilise its information. NetCD will automatically check the CDDB for information and store it on your hard drive for future reference. If you have a CD that's not listed in the CDDB, NetCD will give you the opportunity to submit information on the CD to the Internet database. Version 2.0 for PPC has an assortment of new features including support for multiple drives, customised consoles and enhanced Internet support. Version 1.6.7 for 68k fixes numerous bugs, expands AppleScript support and improves the interface.

ICQ ('I seek you') is a free and friendly Internet program that searches for your friends and associates online, alerting you in real-time when they sign on. With ICQ, you can exchange messages and files, have real-time chat, play games, and more. This latest version contains a change in the message history: incoming and outgoing messages are now stored in a database. In addition, ICQ now contains a built-in email client. There are also new security features, new preferences, and a PC and Mac character translator.
